More than fifty personnel, including ground crews, five helicopters, firefighters from the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Civil Guard, Local Police, and Civil Protection of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, are fighting the fire that broke out this morning in El Ingenio.
The mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García, is at the scene and praised the "rapid action of the emergency services." García reported that the fire spread quickly through the palm tree canopies, but the early intervention of the Emergency Consortium allowed firefighting efforts to begin.
The main concern is to prevent the fire from reaching the Tirajana ravine or nearby palm groves. Two helicopters from the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, one from the Government of the Canary Islands, and two from the Ministry for Ecological Transition, dispatched from Tenerife, are involved in the extinction efforts.
The fire affected a weekend-use dwelling, and in addition to the six evacuated houses, surveillance is maintained to control the spread.
