The situation of the CL Castillo del Romeral has become unsustainable after three seasons competing outside its municipality, San Bartolomé de Tirajana. The Aldea Blanca facility was closed by the city council in October 2023 for a repair that, to date, has not been carried out, despite repeated requests from the board.
The Aldea Blanca wrestling ground has remained closed since October 11, 2023, when the locks were changed and the police stopped the works the club itself was carrying out, with verbal permission from a councilor, due to the imminent start of the league competition. This situation forced the club to seek alternatives, temporarily competing at the Municipal de Vecindario, thanks to the Santa Lucía de Tirajana city council, and later at Sardina del Sur, which has numerous deficiencies.
“"We feel helpless by the authorities, having the wrestling ground closed, contrary to the precepts of the Sports Law of 2019, which obliges all municipalities to keep their sports facilities in good condition, especially those for vernacular sports."
The board has been informed that they will have to find another facility for the 2026-27 season. If a solution is not found in the coming weeks, the CL Castillo del Romeral, which returned to competition in 2021 after twelve years of absence, will be forced into another break, which would mean that Gran Canaria would lose one of its four First Division teams.
So far, no entity has offered an explanation for what has happened in these three seasons or why a repair that should have taken a few days has not been completed. In the October 2023 plenary session, a municipal representative confirmed that only the tender was pending for the wrestling ground's repair, an administrative issue that remains unresolved.
In 2024, the Sports Councilor of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria brought to the insular plenary session aid of 42,000 euros for the repair of the facility, which included improvements to the changing rooms. However, this amount was not used by the city council, and the wrestling ground remains in the same situation since its closure on October 11, 2023. The situation has become entrenched, and Gran Canaria could lose the second team from San Bartolomé de Tirajana within a year, following the disappearance of the club of the same name the previous year.
