The Canary Islands begin this Sunday with an intense heat episode, with temperatures expected to reach 35 degrees in parts of southwest Gran Canaria and other areas of the islands.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has forecast a widespread rise in temperatures, particularly affecting mid-altitude areas and the interior. In the specific case of southwest Gran Canaria, values are expected to reach 34 or 35 degrees throughout the day.
The weather event will be accompanied by light calima at altitude. This suspended dust, which will initially affect the eastern islands, will gradually spread to the rest of the territory during the afternoon.
Regarding sky conditions, clear skies will prevail, although cloudy intervals will persist in the low-lying northern areas during the early and late hours of the day. The wind will blow with moderate intensity from the north, with possible strong intervals in the eastern and western ends of the mountainous islands.
