The Yaiza City Council has publicly denounced the delay in the adjudication of 42 public homes acquired by the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Lanzarote in Playa Blanca, which have been pending delivery to applicants for over a year and a half.

The purchase of the 42 newly constructed homes in the Los Ajaches residential complex was formalized at the notary on January 30, 2025. However, citizens awaiting public housing in Playa Blanca still cannot access them. The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, noted that while these homes do not cover the municipality's total demand of 400 people, they offer some relief while other solutions are sought.
Noda has requested a new working meeting with María del Pino de León Hernández, director of the Canarian Housing Institute, to address the adjudication and ascertain the tender date for another 136 homes intended for affordable rent. These will be built on a 42,000 square meter plot ceded by the municipality to the regional government. The project is ready, and its execution is expected to be financed with funds from the State Housing Plan 2026-2030.
Regarding the 42 homes already purchased, Óscar Noda has also requested a meeting in writing with the president of the Cabildo, as the adjudication was announced for last June. The mayor believes the island institution, a co-financier of the 9.3 million euro investment, must provide explanations on the current status of the procedure.
Óscar Noda recalled that Yaiza was a pioneer in managing and granting licenses for the construction of protected private promotion houses in Montaña Roja. He added that in the third phase of Los Ajaches, there are another 76 completed houses that could be acquired by the Cabildo or the Autonomous Community with state funds.
