The weather event will bring a progressive rise in temperatures, potentially reaching 40 ºC on the southern slopes of the islands. The situation will be worsened by the arrival of calima at high altitudes and a drop in ambient humidity, factors that raise the risk of forest fires to extreme levels across the archipelago.
Forecasts indicate that the thermal episode will be particularly intense in the midlands of Gran Canaria, where temperatures are expected to exceed 36 ºC starting Wednesday. By Friday, values could range between 37 ºC and 40 ºC in inland areas and southern slopes.
In addition to high daytime temperatures, Aemet warns of a lack of thermal relief during the early morning hours. Very warm nights are expected in the highlands and midlands, with minimums not dropping below 25 ºC, which will hinder nighttime rest across much of the island territory.
