The European triathlon season began with intensity in Gran Canaria, where Damien Le Mesnager and Caroline Pohle secured wins at the Anfi Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria, in a day characterized by wind and excitement.

The event, held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, attracted numerous participants to Anfi del Mar beach, with all entries sold out months in advance. The weather conditions, including significant wind, added an extra layer of challenge to the competition.
In the men's category, the race was dominated by an intense battle. An Italian competitor took the lead in the cycling segment, reaching speeds of up to 80 km/h. However, Le Mesnager, who had climbed from 17th position, managed to overtake him on the final lap, securing victory with a total time of 3:48:09. Second place went to the Italian triathlete, and another compatriot completed the podium.

"It was a tough day, there was a lot of wind on both the bike and the run. I had a bad swim start and pushed hard on the bike to catch Michele, and I thought the run was already decided. The last 5 kilometers of the run were very hard, too hard!"

In the women's competition, Caroline Pohle demonstrated absolute dominance. After exiting the water in second place, she quickly took control of the cycling segment and maintained her lead until the finish line. Despite a challenging previous year, the German triathlete claimed victory in 4:18:17, followed by a French competitor and a British one.

"This victory is very special for me, as last year was very tough; it's very emotional. It's the best way to start the season. I'm back and I'm very happy; I've worked very hard for this and I'm very proud of myself. It was very hard for everyone, it was very hot and the wind was absolutely crazy."

The Anfi Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria, part of the Challenge Family circuit, is the only international triathlon held in Gran Canaria. It receives support from various entities, including the Mogán Town Council, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria through Turismo de Gran Canaria and the Insular Sports Institute, as well as the Government of Canarias and the Anfi Group, among other collaborators.
