The assaults were characterized by the use of the well-known 'mataleón' technique, by which the assailants immobilized the victims from behind to steal their belongings.
The investigation began after one of the victims filed a report, stating she had been assaulted while walking near a commercial area in the town. The assailants immobilized her and stole various personal effects before fleeing.
Subsequently, the Civil Guard received a second report for a similar robbery committed the same early morning on another street in Mogán. In this case, the victim was also surprised from behind and had her mobile phone stolen using the same strangulation technique.
Analysis of recordings from establishments near the scene allowed officers to determine that both incidents were committed by the same aggressors and followed an identical pattern. The images showed how one of the victims lost consciousness after the strangulation.
The perpetrators acted in a coordinated manner, with one violently immobilizing the victim while the other searched their belongings and stole valuables. They selected areas with low foot traffic and victims walking alone to increase their chances of success.
Following the arrest of one of the alleged perpetrators, the proceedings have been sent to the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office of Las Palmas. The investigation remains open to identify the second individual involved.
