The Book Fair “Mogán, Takes the Word” is taking place this Friday and Saturday in the Pérez Galdós square of Arguineguín, featuring literary workshops, activities for schoolchildren, family entertainment, presentations, talks, and book signings. Notable guests include renowned writers Juan Gómez‑Jurado and Albert Espinosa, who will share their latest works with the audience.
During the opening, Simone Artiles from the Municipal Library Network emphasized the role of libraries as centers for learning. Writer Néstor Acosta highlighted the visibility of Canarian authors, and Laura Fantasy advocated for the recognition of contemporary national literature. The Councilor for Libraries, Neftalí Sabina, reaffirmed the municipal commitment to promoting reading and culture.
A significant moment was the presentation of the Fair's official anthem, “Toma la palabra,” a collective creation driven by Rubén Rodríguez. Writer Santiago Gil also participated with special activities for individuals from the Center for Personal Autonomy.
Friday's program included children's workshops, literary scavenger hunts, and presentations by Canarian authors such as Elisenda Romano, Salma Abdola Gutiérrez, Ariadna Mars, and Manuel García Morales. The evening concluded with the presentation of Juan Gómez‑Jurado's new book, “Mentira,” followed by the Gastro Book Cover Night with live music from local group Versiona2.
On Saturday, the fair will continue with workshops, a play area, and bouncy castles. Authors like José Martel Rodríguez, Gloria T. Dauden, José Luis Correa, and Germán Vega will present their works, while local artists such as Mari Rivas, Labios de Hooker, Karen Borresen, and Ángel Sánchez de la Cruz will perform. The signing session will feature Nayara Alonso, Tazarte Sánchez Moreno, Zahira Díaz Esteban, Ina Molina, and Carmelo G. Zerpa.
The fair's closing will include a recital-concert by Ari Jiménez and Andrea González. The event will conclude with writer and screenwriter Albert Espinosa, who will present his novel “Nunca Estuviste Solo” in the Canary Islands for the first time, followed by a book signing.
