A merchant from San Fernando de Maspalomas has been honored by the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council with the Entrepreneurs award, in recognition of over half a century of dedication to her family business and her contribution to local commerce.

Bazar Ani, located in San Fernando de Maspalomas, within the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, has established itself as a commercial landmark. This establishment, known for its wide variety of products, has been a meeting point for generations of residents and visitors to the island. The owner, who has dedicated her life to the counter since she was 16 years old, has been the soul of this business, transforming it from a family grocery store into a bazaar that, according to her customers, “has everything.”
The business's story began as a small grocery store founded by the merchant's father. After her father's passing when she was just 18 years old, she took over and decided to reinvent the establishment. With effort and perseverance, she transformed it into the well-known current bazaar, which today stands out for its offering of clothing, costumes, and haberdashery, especially popular during Carnival.

"Sometimes I am greeted by children of customers who used to come to the store and are now grown up."

Over the years, the management of the family business faced challenges, such as a difficult period around 1975 due to economic problems. However, the merchant and her family managed to reopen the establishment with an even more diverse offering, including everything from clothing and perfumes to gold, consolidating it as a reference point in the area. The growth of San Bartolomé de Tirajana from the 1980s contributed to the expansion and recognition of the bazaar.
Currently, the merchant enjoys her well-deserved retirement, although she maintains a close connection with the bazaar, which is now run by her children. For her, the greatest legacy is having provided them with a job and seeing the family business continue. The recent Entrepreneurs award, granted by the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, has been a great joy and a surprise, adding to another recognition received in February for her carnival spirit.
