The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has initiated an official review of the 2021 selection process for 13 Local Police officer positions, following a complaint alleging serious irregularities.

The decision to review the process, from which only five positions were filled, was announced by the Human Resources councilor, Elena Álamo. According to Álamo, this measure aims to ensure “absolute transparency” in a procedure conducted during the previous term, under the administration of the PSOE, NC, and a Ciudadanos councilor.
The review comes a day after the municipal comptroller, Tania Naya, formally requested information from the Personnel department regarding the initiation of this review. This request was made after accessing a complaint filed on April 6 by businessman Juan Manuel Pérez, who urged the administration to act and keep her informed of developments.

The process concluded with «serious irregularities» sufficient to declare the radical nullity of the file.

In his complaint, Pérez warned that if no action was taken before April 21, he would take the case to the Prosecutor's Office. The businessman claims to possess “additional evidentiary elements of special gravity” that he has not yet disclosed, which could lead to criminal charges for alleged prevarication by omission and inaction. This situation has prompted reactions from parties such as Primero Canarias and former mayor Conchi Narváez, who have demanded maximum transparency from the local government.
Among the alleged anomalies cited by Pérez are the complete omission of mandatory medical examinations, the possible existence of false or manipulated medical certificates, acts of prevarication by inaction, influence peddling, and disclosure of secrets due to an alleged leak of selective tests. A lack of verification of the psychophysical requirements mandated by regional regulations is also noted. These alleged irregularities were previously reported in June 2023 by several applicants, but had not been addressed or investigated to date, as recalled by the Hablemos Ahora party in a statement.
