Santana and Rodriguez win Maspalomas Open Water

Miguel Ángel Santana and Laura Rodríguez claimed victory in the 7,400-meter main event of the XV Maspalomas Open Water Gran Canaria, held this Saturday with over 500 participants.

Miguel Ángel Santana, representing Club Natación Faynagua, won the men's category with a time of 1 hour and 49 minutes, narrowly beating his clubmate Álvaro Cabrera by a few seconds. Rafael Mena from CD Gloria Swim & Train Maspalomas completed the podium in third place.
In the women's category, Laura Rodríguez Santaularia confirmed her favorite status, dominating the 7,400-meter race from start to finish with a time of 1 hour, 55 minutes, and 39 seconds. Elena Sarmiento (CD Gloria Swim & Train Maspalomas) and France's Sybille Bouchet (CN Metropole) secured second and third places, respectively.
The 1,000-meter race, the most popular of the day with over 300 participants, saw Unai Cocera (CN Metropole) take the win in the men's category with a time of 25 minutes and 1 second. Sheila Pulido (CN Faynagua) was the female winner, completing the course in 28 minutes and 45 seconds. Jeremy Tomás Peña and Nicolás Bordes finished second and third in the men's race, while Marta Armas and Leire Romero took the other podium spots in the women's.
The organization also highlighted the performance of Jesús Alonso, who won the men's 1,000 meters in an impressive 13 minutes and 38 seconds, with Luca Martín and David Santana completing a sweep for Club Natación Metropole. In the women's 1,000 meters, Italy's María Sofía Pisa (CN Metropole) won gold with 14:23, followed by Dácil Jover and world champion Erika Villaécija.
The fifteenth edition of the Maspalomas Open Water Gran Canaria celebrated a new participation record, exceeding 500 registered swimmers and solidifying the event as a benchmark for open water swimming in the Canary Islands.
