An individual has accepted a one-year prison sentence for a forced entry robbery in an occupied dwelling in Mogán, Gran Canaria, which occurred in April 2020, during the height of the pandemic.

The Second Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas has confirmed the sentence, which also mandates compensation of 1,900 euros to the homeowner's insurance company. The defendant, who has a prior criminal record, benefited from the mitigating circumstance of undue delays, as the judicial process experienced significant interruptions during three distinct periods: from August 2020 to October 2021, from November 2021 to June 2022, and from September 2022 to April 2023.
The verdict was delivered 'in voce' following a plea agreement reached between the defense and the private prosecution before the trial. The established facts indicate that the convicted individual arrived at the residential complex by taxi, forced a window to enter the home, and stole several belongings before fleeing in the same vehicle.

Law enforcement officers were already monitoring the area because it was not the first time robberies had occurred in the tourist complex.

It is worth noting that the Prosecutor's Office also accuses another man, identified only by his initials, who did not appear in court and is currently wanted. This case is part of a series of robberies committed during the pandemic, for which the convicted individual is already serving other prison sentences.
