The plenary session of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, presided over by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez, has given the green light to a significant economic injection of over 60.9 million euros. These funds will be allocated to the improvement of essential public infrastructure and services in the municipality, with an execution horizon extending to the year 2026.
A crucial part of this funding will focus on repairing the damage caused by storm Therese, which affected various municipal infrastructures. Mayor Pérez indicated that some of these actions will be managed as emergencies or urgent matters, while awaiting potential financial collaboration from other administrations.
The first budget amendment, amounting to almost 26 million euros, prioritizes public roads. More than 9.6 million will be invested in the conservation and improvement of roads, sidewalks, and road safety, covering the rehabilitation of overpasses and underpasses, street repaving, and signage renewal. Specific interventions are also planned in areas such as the access to the San Agustín shopping center, the surroundings of Holiday World, and the coast of Castillo del Romeral. Additionally, over 4 million are allocated for playgrounds, 2.7 million for asphalt paving, and 2.3 million for sidewalks. The City Council will also dedicate nearly 1.5 million to improving public lighting and electrical networks, with actions in rural areas like Huerta del Conde and Manzanilla, as well as in urban spaces and beaches.
The second amendment, totaling approximately 34.9 million euros, includes larger-scale projects. A notable allocation is 18 million for the future senior citizens' residence, whose processing will be carried out through the Mancomunidad de las Medianías. Furthermore, 6.5 million are assigned to the agreement with Visocan for the promotion of social housing, and other allocations for sanitation, cemeteries, sports facilities, and public equipment. Investments are also planned for the Local Police station, municipal swimming pools, and cultural facilities. According to the mayor, this economic package will be financed from the treasury surplus, which exceeds 217 million euros.
The accounts also include resources for the operation of municipal services, the acquisition of sports equipment, the maintenance of early childhood education centers, and the technological modernization of the City Council. Likewise, subsidies for social and sports groups are contemplated, as well as funding for relevant cultural and tourist events, such as the Winter Pride Maspalomas or international sports competitions.
