Hundreds of people paraded through the streets of Yaiza in a festive pilgrimage that became a gesture of solidarity, gathering farm produce, non-perishable food, and essential items. These donations will be distributed among families in vulnerable situations, consolidating the event as one of the most popular and participatory in southern Lanzarote.
Pilgrims of various ages journeyed from the football field parking lot to the church, accompanied by musical groups and folk ensembles. The procession concluded with an offering at the feet of the Virgin, on a day filled with faith, gratitude, memories, and tradition.
Families like that of Lucas Ortiz, who wore the same attire his father wore 45 years ago, joined the pilgrimage, sharing music, wine, cheese, cured meats, sweets, and typical Canarian dishes. Joy and the desire to celebrate never waned.
The town decorated about twenty carts, many of them animal-drawn. Primary sector workers brought donkeys and horses, while livestock farmer Chalo Viñoly contributed camel specimens from Uga, recalling the animal's historical and current importance in agriculture and tourism.
The senior group from Yaiza, along with members of the Rubicón Folk Group, performed before the patron saint, highlighting the cohesion and intergenerational enjoyment that characterized the event.
The municipal representation, led by mayor Óscar Noda and Festejos councilor Daniel Medina, accompanied the parish priest Jonathan Almeida. The Yaiza City Council thanked all attendees, folk groups, the Yaiza Local Police, and the Civil Protection Yaiza volunteers, who provided a preventive service including a drone unit.
After the pilgrimage, the celebration continued in the Plaza de Los Remedios with musical performances. During this event, the Magicians of Yaiza 2026 were announced: Irene Montelongo and Pablo Ramírez (children's magicians), and Minerva Rodríguez and Oliver Rodríguez (adult magicians). The patron saint festivities in Yaiza will continue until September 9th.
