The investigation began following a significant increase in thefts within the Yaiza police jurisdiction, culminating in four incidents within just 24 hours during the second week of July. The operation was prompted when one of the victims reported to the police station that his stolen mobile phone's geolocation was indicating a location at a bus stop in Playa Blanca.
A Citizen Security patrol unit went to the location and identified the now-detained individual, finding the mobile phone inside his backpack. The bag also contained other items related to previous reports.
This discovery allowed officers to open a new line of investigation, placing the alleged perpetrator within the same timeframe as other criminal acts. Analysis of surveillance camera footage from the area corroborated his identification carrying the recovered backpack.
The inquiries determined that the individual accessed rooms in tourist resorts by taking advantage of the residents' absence, after conducting prior surveillance to ensure they were not inside. Investigators also confirmed that he used public transport for his movements, a strategy allegedly employed to hinder his location and subsequent arrest.
The detainee was handed over to judicial authorities along with the conducted proceedings. This action is part of the Civil Guard's commitment to enhancing the security of the tourism sector in Lanzarote, ensuring an environment of tranquility and trust for visitors.
