The initiative responds to a recurring citizen demand, particularly in sections where high vehicle speeds, lack of shoulders, and road conditions cause concern for pedestrians and cyclists. The proposal focuses on routes such as the LZ-56 in Tinguatón and the LZ-46 between Mancha Blanca and La Vegueta, requesting measures for effective speed reduction.
It is proposed that the Cabildo evaluate various technical solutions, including speed control traffic lights, luminous signage, or pedagogical radars. MRT councilor Antonio Morales emphasized the urgency of acting to prevent accidents, noting that resident concern is constant.
“"We must not wait for an accident to happen to act when there are sections where it is evident that we need to improve safety, especially for those who walk or cycle."
The approved motion also includes reviewing horizontal and vertical signage, repainting deteriorated pedestrian crossings, and updating signage at intersections. Special emphasis is placed on creating and widening safe shoulders for pedestrians and cyclists on the LZ-56 and LZ-67 (Chimanfaya street), and other municipal roads.
Morales added that it is necessary to adapt the roads given their increasing use by people walking, practicing sports, or cycling, seeking to balance traffic with the safety of all users.
The MRT positively assessed the unanimous support from the municipal corporation, thanking all groups for their backing to present a clear request to the Cabildo regarding road safety.
