The patron saint festivities of Los Remedios in Yaiza are currently underway, focusing on traditions and those who have helped preserve them. The program combines music, folklore, memory, and sentiment, with highlights such as the Rubicón Festival and the Rancho de Pascuas de Yaiza.
The Agrupación Folklórica Rubicón transformed the main square of Yaiza into a stage for Canarian folklore with its 'Roots that Unite Us' festival. The event featured eleven groups from different parts of Lanzarote, including Timbayba, Malpais de La Corona, Guagime, Coros y Danzas, Güerma, La Peña, Los Campesinos, Guanapay, Gaida, and the parranda Los Buches. Presented by Isabel Cabrera and Francisco José Navarro, the festival included isas, polkas, siote, folías, sorondongo, seguidillas, and malagueñas, celebrating Lanzarote's cultural heritage.
Additionally, the Rancho de Pascuas de Yaiza, with 55 years of history, delivered a proclamation recounting the group's past. Currently comprising twenty-five members, including veterans Pedro Santana and Perico Cabrera, the proclamation recalled its beginnings in 1971, initiated by parish priest Antonio Parrilla, and its revival in 1979. The event emphasized the Rancho de Pascuas' significance to Yaiza's identity and its role in transmitting traditions.
Mayor Óscar Noda highlighted the communal spirit of the celebration, while the Councilor for Festivities, Daniel Medina, expressed gratitude for the group's and the Festival Commission's involvement. The Los Remedios celebrations will continue until September 9th, bringing together residents and visitors to celebrate the culture and traditions of Yaiza.
