The Area of Economic Promotion and Primary Sector of the Arona City Council, led by Melania Santos, has formalized two collaboration agreements with the Fishermen's Guild Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes and the National Association of Professional Artisanal Fishing Shipowners, Minor Arts, and Pole and Line Tuna Fishermen San Casiano. These agreements aim to support the activity of the professional and artisanal fishing sector in the municipality during 2026.
Within these agreements, the Arona City Council grants a total of 75,000 euros in direct subsidies to both entities. Of this amount, 50,000 euros are allocated to the Fishermen's Guild Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes. These funds will cover the costs of acquiring equipment for the first sale post in Los Cristianos, contributing to the operation and improvement of this space linked to fishing activities and the commercialization of catches.
In turn, the Shipowners' Association San Casiano will receive 25,000 euros from the City Council to cover the general operating expenses of the entity during 2026. These expenses include those related to the association's management and other unforeseen costs arising from its usual activities.
Both subsidies are nominative and will be paid in a single installment once the respective collaboration agreements are formalized. The eligible expenses must fall within the period between January 1 and December 31, 2026, and comply with the concepts established in each agreement.
Through these agreements, the Arona City Council reaffirms its collaboration with the representative entities of the fishing sector, supporting both the activities of the Fishermen's Guild Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes and the operations of the Shipowners' Association San Casiano.
