The Arona City Council, through the Department of Education, is strengthening the “Youth and Strengths” program as a key tool in preventing addictive behaviors among young people aged 12 to 22.

The program, promoted within the V Municipal Plan on Addictions and in collaboration with ANTAD Adicciones, is designed for young people with risk factors associated with substance use and problematic technology use. It offers comprehensive care combining psychological intervention, family support, and coordination with educational centers, social services, and health resources for an early and tailored response.
The most recent data indicate that the predominant age group among those attended is 16 to 18 years old (42.9%), followed by 13 to 15 years old (31.4%), highlighting adolescence as a crucial stage for prevention. Cannabis use is the main detected problem (51.4%), followed by problematic use of screens and digital technologies (34.3%). Additionally, 40% of young people presented secondary addictive behavior, linked to alcohol consumption and vaping.
The multidisciplinary team at ANTAD Adicciones has conducted 220 individual sessions, 165 family interventions, and 82 telephone and telematic follow-ups. This continuous support aims to improve treatment adherence and enhance the role of families in recovery and prevention.
The program records a notable retention rate of 79.3%, reflecting the commitment of young people and their families. "Youth and Strengths" thus consolidates itself as a strategic municipal resource for promoting healthy lifestyles, reducing risk factors, and improving the emotional and social well-being of youth and their families in Arona.
