The Arona City Council has demanded urgent measures from the Port Authority and other administrations due to the "massive" concentration of anchored vessels off Las Vistas beach, a situation impacting the swimming area and the tourist image.

The Arona council has denounced the repeated presence of a high number of boats in front of Las Vistas beach in Los Cristianos. This saturation, which intensifies on certain days, negatively affects the bathing area, degrades the coastline's image, and harms the perception of the tourist destination.
Mayor Fátima Lemes described the situation as "unsustainable" after "several years" of enduring this problem. "We cannot normalize a scenario that affects one of the most emblematic areas of the municipality, crucial for both residents and visitors. We need the support of the competent authorities to act effectively and restore order," she stated.
The City Council has received new citizen communications, accompanied by images, alerting about the saturation of anchored vessels. Concerns extend to safety, public health, and environmental protection in a heavily used beach area.
The first deputy mayor and councilor for Environment and Public Services, Clari Pérez, warned that "the indiscriminate accumulation of boats off Las Vistas beach requires immediate and coordinated action from all competent administrations."
Although the regulation, authorization, and control of anchoring in maritime waters are not municipal responsibilities, the Arona City Council asserts its institutional duty to protect the municipality's general interests and the safety of its beach users, demanding an effective response to a problem that should not be "structural".
Consequently, the council has requested that the Maritime Captaincy of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Directorate General of Coasts and Management of the Canary Maritime Space, the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and the Provincial Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil adopt measures to control anchoring, especially in areas close to the bathing zone. Proposals include defining authorized anchoring zones, controlling safety distances, reinforcing surveillance, conducting periodic inspections, and initiating sanctioning proceedings for non-compliance.
The City Council clarifies that "this is not about singling out recreational boating or generalizing about boat users," but rather about "ordering a reality that, due to its volume, repetition, and potential impact, requires a proportionate, coordinated, and effective response in defense of the general interest."
