The objective of this new unit is to improve the response to road incidents, expedite accident investigations, and reinforce the prevention of risky behaviors on the municipality's roads. Since its implementation, the unit has carried out 769 significant actions, including 283 traffic accidents with material damage, 110 accidents with injuries, and one fatal accident.
Additionally, 117 administrative alcohol tests and 40 drug detection tests with positive results have been recorded. The unit has also processed 172 reports for road safety offenses and intervened in 46 actions related to other crimes.
The reinforcement of the Accident Investigation Section allows for combining incident response with greater preventive work through daily static checks, aimed at detecting behaviors that could endanger road users. The increase in alcohol and drug checks aims to detect and remove risky drivers from circulation, enhancing prevention to reduce accidents.
Specialized intervention in accidents expedites the processing of reports, offering a more effective response to those affected and facilitating subsequent procedures, contributing to greater protection of their rights. The Arona City Council and the Local Police value the daily work of the 20 officers and the coordinating officer to make the municipality's streets and roads safer.
