The Directorate General for Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands, in collaboration with GreenWorld Festival, has organized the DJ Contest as part of the MAPPA Festival. The competition aims to promote emerging musical talent in the Canary Islands. A total of 93 DJs residing in the Canary Islands, aged over 18, submitted their applications.
Following a public vote held between August 14 and 27, the top 20 participants with the highest scores advanced to the final stage. The final score is determined by a combination of community votes (up to 30 points) and the evaluation of an expert jury (up to 70 points), which assesses aspects such as musical selection, technique, set construction, artistic identity, and suitability for MAPPA. The sum of both phases determines the winner.
The winner will have the opportunity to open the MAPPA · Trilogy III event on September 5 at the Siam Park Amphitheater, in Tenerife, sharing the lineup with international artists. Additionally, they will receive a professional development program including mentorship, an artist website, a professional press kit, and a photo book, all designed to boost their career and facilitate their next steps in the music industry. They will also perform at Papagayo Beach Club.
This initiative is part of Talento Canario (Canarian Talent), a platform by the Government of the Canary Islands aimed at inspiring and recognizing the young talent of the archipelago. The Minister of Social Welfare, Candelaria Delgado, highlighted the importance of offering relatable role models for young people to discover their potential. Meanwhile, the Director General for Youth, Daniel Morales, emphasized the platform's evolving nature and expressed satisfaction with the high participation in this public-private collaboration format focused on electronic music.
The contest jury includes Daniel Morales (Director General for Youth), Héctor Couto (DJ & Producer), Diego Aldea (Head of B4 Bookings), Luis Honrado (Director of Analog Agency), and Archip Simmelink (Founder of Greenworld & MAPPA Festival).
