The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports, has defined the school calendar for the 2026-2027 academic year in the non-university educational centers of the Archipelago. Classes will commence in a staggered manner starting from September 9.
The first to return to classrooms will be students in Early Childhood and Primary Education on September 9. The following day, September 10, it will be the turn of Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO), Basic Adult Education, Aula Mentor, and Basic Informatics. On September 11, 1st and 2nd year of Baccalaureate will begin, for both ordinary age students and adults.
The rest of the educational programs will gradually join until the course start is completed on September 21. Specific dates include September 14 for direct access courses to Intermediate and Higher Vocational Training Cycles, and September 16 for Vocational Training Programs and Sports and Plastic Arts and Design Education.
The academic year will conclude on different dates depending on the educational stage. On May 14, 2027, activities for 2nd year Baccalaureate, That’s English!, and Special Regime Language Education will end. For the majority of students, the course will finish on Tuesday, June 22, 2027, including Early Childhood, Primary, ESO, and 1st year Baccalaureate.
The school calendar includes two main holiday periods: Christmas holidays, from December 23 to January 8, and Easter holidays, from March 22 to March 26. These periods are in addition to national, island, and school-discretionary days set by each educational center.
Among the national and regional holidays are October 12 (National Day of Spain), November 2 (All Saints' Day), December 7 (Teacher and Student Day), and December 8 (Immaculate Conception Day).
Each Canary Island has its own island holiday. For the 2026-2027 academic year, the dates are: September 8 in Gran Canaria (Nuestra Señora del Pino), September 15 in Lanzarote and La Graciosa (Nuestra Señora de los Volcanes), September 18 in Fuerteventura (Nuestra Señora de la Peña), September 24 in El Hierro (Nuestra Señora de los Reyes), October 5 in La Gomera (Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe), and February 2 in Tenerife (Virgen de la Candelaria).
The academic year is structured into three terms, similar to the rest of the Spanish educational system, ensuring a minimum of 175 teaching days for compulsory education. Educational centers will communicate discretionary days and possible organizational adjustments through their official channels.
