The Valle Colino shelter, a prominent animal welfare organization in Tenerife, has launched a campaign to find a permanent home for Lucky. This 9-year-old dog, small in size and weighing just 4.5 kilograms, exemplifies how time and affection can reverse the effects of mistreatment and fear.
Upon arrival at the shelter, Lucky displayed signs of panic and distrust, reacting with attempted bites to touch or handling. Staff clarify that these reactions stemmed from fear, not an aggressive nature.
Thanks to the daily efforts of the shelter team, Lucky has shown remarkable improvement. He is now more confident and affectionate, interacting more openly with strangers. However, the center emphasizes that the dog still requires patience and a calm environment that respects his adaptive rhythms to fully develop his personality.
Lucky gets along well with other dogs, but his behavior with cats is unknown. The shelter advises against adoption in homes with young children, as the constant energy and interaction from minors could be perceived as a threat by the dog.
The ideal profile for Lucky is a calm and experienced family, capable of understanding that the dog needs to feel secure to initiate contact on his own.
The animal will be provided neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date with vaccinations. The adoption process is strictly in-person, with no prior reservations via phone or internet. Interested individuals can visit the Valle Colino facilities in Finca España (San Cristóbal de La Laguna) from Monday to Saturday between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM, and on Sundays and holidays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, without needing an appointment.
Those unable to adopt can help by sharing the official post on social media to increase Lucky's chances of finding a home.
