Campus La Gomera 2026 has consolidated its training and cultural program with a positive participation balance. The initiative, promoted by the University of La Laguna in coordination with the Cabildo of La Gomera and the collaboration of the island's town councils, aims to bring university knowledge closer to the citizens of La Gomera through specialized training, academic outreach, culture, innovation, and proposals aimed at improving personal and professional skills.
To date, nearly 300 registrations have been recorded across the entire program, including university courses, workshops, and micro-credentials, reflecting the favorable reception of the offerings.
The inaugural event was a lecture by professor Antonio Tejera Gaspar, titled ‘1493: The Colonization of the Antilles with Animals and Plants from La Gomera’, held at the Cabildo's Plenary Hall. This lecture provided a historical and heritage perspective, highlighting the island's strategic role in the early Atlantic connections and its relevance in the transfer of animal and plant species to the Caribbean.
Other activities included the ‘Basic Drone Pilot Course. Qualification for certificates in open category A1/A3’, taught in Agulo, which provided knowledge for obtaining flight certificates and drone handling experience. In Vallehermoso, the cultural event ‘Tagoror de Saberes’ offered proposals on photography, university research dissemination, local culture, wine, and cinema.
In the heritage and scientific field, the course ‘Aboriginal Archaeology of the Canary Islands’ offered students an introduction to the lifestyle of the archipelago's aboriginal populations and the latest research findings. In San Sebastián de La Gomera, the ‘Practical Course in Spanish Sign Language (LSE): inclusion, accessibility, and communication’ was held, focusing on improving interaction with deaf individuals.
Youth mental health was also addressed in the online course ‘Strategies for Caring for Youth Mental Health’, aimed at identifying mental health problems and warning signs. In parallel, from July 1st to 20th, the university micro-credential ‘Introduction to AI and its Practical Application in the Workplace’ was developed.
The program concluded with the workshop ‘Introduction to Deductive Sensory Analysis and Regenerative Viticulture’, held at the DOP Vinos La Gomera Regulatory Council in Vallehermoso. This activity offered a theoretical-practical approach to wine knowledge from a sensory perspective, while introducing sustainable practices related to regenerative viticulture and its influence on the final product's quality.
Campus La Gomera 2026, an evolution of the Summer University, offers a stable, transversal, and decentralized program throughout the year in various municipalities and online. After a break in August, it will resume activities in September. The registration period for September courses is open via a provided link.
The courses are recognized by ECTS credits and have a symbolic registration fee of 5 euros, the proceeds of which will be allocated to strengthening rural schools in La Gomera, thus reinforcing the social and educational commitment of this initiative.
