The Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands is considering suspending in-person classes in Gran Canaria and Tenerife on June 11 and 12, coinciding with the pope's visit, prioritizing student safety.

The decision regarding the suspension of educational activities has not yet been made, as confirmed by the head of the ministry. An official communication and the finalization of the visit's program are awaited before making a statement.

"The decision has not been made. Firstly, because we have not received official communication or a request, but let's also be realistic: the visit's program is not 100% finalized, at least as far as we know."

The minister indicated that greater assurances and detailed information are needed to make a determination. Coordination meetings are planned with other areas of the Canary Islands Government and with the event organizers to gather the necessary data.
Once specific schedules and security needs are available, a decision can be made on whether to suspend classes or opt for a remote learning modality. The priority is to avoid disrupting education, but safety takes precedence over all other considerations.

"Safety prevails, and we will, of course, take into account the recommendations, requests, or instructions we may receive from the state security forces and bodies."
