On Sunday alone, the National Geographic Institute (IGN) detected three tremors with magnitudes of 2, 2.3, and 2.4. These seismic movements occurred in the Atlantic, with two of them located between Tenerife and Gran Canaria, and the third to the south of the former island.
The IGN's records, which include earthquakes of magnitude 1.5 or higher or those felt by the population, show that seismic activity was concentrated in the early hours of Sunday, between 03:18 and 03:51, at depths of 7, 16, and 31 kilometers.
Of the total of 13 earthquakes recorded since Friday, eight were located in the ocean, while the remaining five occurred on land, affecting Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Palma, and El Hierro. On Friday, April 24, five tremors were registered, including one in Guía de Isora and another in Agüimes. On Saturday, April 25, another five were added, with events in Villa de Mazo and Frontera.
“"Crouch, cover yourself under a table and hold on to it, stay calm, and move away from furniture, windows, and lamps are some of the key recommendations."
Given the occurrence of earthquakes, the IGN offers a series of tips for the population, although movements in the islands are not usually of great intensity. Recommendations include seeking shelter under a table, staying calm, and, if outdoors, moving away from buildings and power poles. For drivers, it is advised to stop in a safe place and remain inside the vehicle.
