Among the prominent candidates are the opera production Yerma, a collaboration between the Auditorio de Tenerife, Zarzuela, and Brazilian festivals, as well as the zarzuela El dúo de la africana, presented by Amigos Canarios de la Zarzuela. They are joined by the Tenerife-born dancer Daniel Abreu, recognized for his contemporary dance piece Es aquí.
The nominees for the fourth edition of these awards, granted by the Academy of Performing Arts, were announced last Tuesday by actress Anabel Alonso and magician Jorge Blass. The awards ceremony is scheduled for May 18 at Los Teatros del Canal in Madrid.
The opera Yerma, which premiered at the Auditorio de Tenerife in October, was the inaugural title of the Ópera de Tenerife season, achieving great public success. Similarly, El dúo de la africana, also premiered in October, captivated audiences at the Teatro Pérez Galdós in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, as part of the 33rd Zarzuela season of the Canary Islands.
The work Es aquí, conceived and directed by Daniel Abreu, who performs it alongside Diego Pazo, explores profound themes such as displacement and the importance of a sense of belonging, both personally and territorially.
In this edition, musicals such as Los Miserables and Wicked, both by ATG Entertainment España, lead the nominations with four candidacies each. Dancer and choreographer Rocío Molina also stands out with four nominations for her work Calentamiento, while Esencia, El entusiasmo, and Memorias de Adriano compete with three.
