The first major leap for CD Tenerife to Segunda División A occurred in the 1952-53 season. Under the management of Carlos Muñiz, the team secured its entry into national football after an exciting promotion playoff against Orihuela. The decisive match at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López, with a full house, ended in a 3-0 victory, overturning the 2-1 first-leg deficit.
The second promotion came in the 1970-71 campaign, when the then-named Tenerife Atlético, led by García Verdugo, was crowned champion of its group in Tercera División. The promotion was sealed on May 30, 1971, at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López, before approximately 12,000 spectators, with a resounding 4-0 victory against Real Unión de Irún.
The 1982-83 season marked the third promotion, with the team led by José Ramón Fuertes. The campaign was very solid and culminated on May 15, 1983, with a 6-0 thrashing of SD Compostela at a packed Heliodoro Rodríguez López. The squad included the addition of a renowned player who reinforced the team in the second half of the season.
The fourth promotion took place in the 1986-87 season, under the technical direction of the Tenerife native Martín Marrero. The 'blanquiazul' team dominated the competition, becoming champions and achieving direct promotion to Segunda División A. This achievement returned the club to professional football, noted for its solidity despite a less spectacular playing style.
The most recent promotion to Segunda División A occurred in the 2012-13 season, after two years in the bronze category. Following a failed attempt the previous year, the team, managed by the current CD Tenerife coach, managed to reach the promotion play-off and overcome several knockout rounds. The final promotion against L’Hospitalet, a highly contested tie, culminated in the team's return to professional football.
