The coach of CD Tenerife, Álvaro Cervera, has analyzed the importance of the upcoming match against Ponferradina. This week is crucial for the 'blanquiazules', as mathematical promotion to the Second Division could be sealed if they win and Celta Fortuna loses its match.
The technical director pointed out that, in addition to being a special encounter, it will be a difficult match due to the rival team's good form. Ponferradina has proven to be one of the strongest teams in the second half of the league, accumulating five victories and a draw at home, with only two defeats in the League so far in 2026.
“"We are a team that wins matches, but lately, it's been difficult for us, both because of the opposing teams and ourselves, because we are doing things that three months ago were unthinkable."
Cervera emphasized that the keys to success will lie in his players acting as a true team and overcoming their nerves. This is essential to avoid the errors that, as he has highlighted, have been repeated frequently in recent weeks, preventing Tenerife from achieving the expected results.
Despite the significance of the match, the coach has remained calm, indicating that promotion still seems «very distant». He insisted on the need to play with the same intensity and strategy they have shown so far to prevent Ponferradina from imposing its style of play. The Leonese team is a winning rival that knows what it's doing, which has complicated things for CD Tenerife in recent matchdays.
This Friday's training session at the Ciudad Deportiva proceeded calmly, focusing on correcting the mistakes that appear in matches but are not evident during sessions. In the coach's opinion, these errors are a consequence of the stress generated by the end of the season. Cervera reminded that there are still 15 points at stake and that «six are up in the air».
