Plaza de la Candelaria in Santa Cruz de Tenerife was the setting for the election of the Children's Magicians for the May Festivities 2026, an event that highlights popular Canarian culture.

Last Sunday, Plaza de la Candelaria was filled with tradition for the election of the Children's Magicians for the May Festivities 2026 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. A boy, dressed in the Hombre de Tacoronte costume according to Alfred Diston, and a girl, wearing the Mujer de Gran Canaria daily costume, were selected in a gala that highlighted popular culture from a children's perspective.
The show, artistically directed by an industry professional and produced by another expert, featured 30 aspiring participants, 20 girls and 10 boys. The event showcased Canarian craftsmanship and traditional attire, registering a full house and establishing itself as an important date in the festive calendar.
In addition to the children's election, the celebrations included the proclamation of the Queen of the May Festivities 2026, who represented a cultural association with the typical Mujer de Fuerteventura costume. Her court of honor was made up of several ladies, each wearing traditional costumes from different islands.
The festivities also highlighted the role of seniors with the election of the senior romera for the May Festivities 2026, who represented a cultural association of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, dressed in the Mujer del Miradero costume. Her court of honor also displayed a variety of traditional garments.
Following these election galas, the May Festivities will continue with the anticipated inauguration of the flower, plant, craft, and gastronomy exhibition in García Sanabria Park. This event, which can be visited until May 4th, will feature classics such as the Gorgoritos, performed by the company of the children of a remembered artist.
