The board of directors of Círculo de Amistad XII de Enero, led by its president, has unanimously agreed to advance the electoral call to Wednesday, June 10th. This decision responds to the members' rejection of the 2025 fiscal year accounts and the approval of the new budget, as well as the tension generated in recent assemblies.
The elections will be held at the Ruiz de Padrón headquarters, maintaining the usual voting system and the right to vote for honorary, merit, and preferred members, points that had been demanded by the critical sector of the entity.
Discontent among members has been growing during the second year of the current board's term. A turning point was the proposal to sell land owned by the Círculo in Los Moriscos, which mobilized over four hundred members and led to the project's suspension by acclamation. Previously, there was already unease regarding a lack of transparency in the works plan.
The debate has extended to the rights of members who have paid dues for over forty years and the preferred members, creating division over modifying statutes under the premise of "one share, one vote." Although the extraordinary general meeting approved maintaining the privileges of preferred members, the rejection of the accounts and budget in the last ordinary meeting triggered the countdown to the elections.
The board justifies the early call to quell the tension from about a hundred members and because the president believes 80% of the fifteen objectives set at the start of his term have been met, such as the installation of solar canopies, expansion of the spa and gym, and renovations to facilities.
Sergio Núñez, currently a banking sector worker, is emerging as a potential candidate from the official sector to retain the presidency, aiming to eradicate tension and restore the institution's image as a "large family."
