The ruling, issued by the substitute judge of Court No. 1 of Instruction of the Court of Instance of La Laguna, imposes an eight-month prison sentence and a 600 euro fine on the player for a crime of assault. Additionally, he must pay another 600 euros for the battery offense.
The incident, which occurred around 9 PM last Sunday, also involved two other individuals. Initially, Maikel Mesa was detained by the National Police of La Laguna for alleged robbery with violence, with the case subsequently being transferred to the courts.
The three defendants will jointly compensate the victim with 250 euros for the injuries sustained. One of them will also have to pay 135 euros for damages caused to the victim's mobile phone.
The judge has granted the suspension of the custodial sentence for a period of two years to the three defendants, provided they do not commit any further offenses during this time.
According to the sentence details, the events took place on Antonio Zerolo Herrera street, where the defendants approached the victim offensively. After being politely reprimanded, Mesa and his companions allegedly grabbed him against the wall and assaulted him, including a headbutt and a blow to the jaw by the footballer.
The victim identified himself as a "judge" to try and stop the assault. One of the player's companions took his glasses, which were then picked up by a woman present with the group, who returned them and told him to leave.
Later, in a public car park on Manuel de Ossuna street, and after being recorded by the victim, one of the defendants twisted his hand and stole his mobile phone, pushing him down the access ramp. The phone was recovered hours later by the Local Police of La Laguna.
