The National Geographic Institute (IGN) has registered a series of four earthquakes in waters near the northeast of the island of Tenerife. One of these seismic movements, with a magnitude of 3.6 mbLg, was felt by the inhabitants of the area, particularly in La Laguna.
The main tremor was located at 18:37 Canary time, at a depth of 34 kilometers. IGN sources indicated that two other earthquakes were registered at similar depths, 35 and 36 kilometers, with magnitudes of 3.0 and 2.3 respectively. A fourth seismic event was more superficial, at a depth of 16 kilometers with a magnitude of 2.8.
According to the IGN's explanation, the area where these earthquakes occurred does not typically exhibit high seismic activity. The depth of the movements and their distance from the coast suggest that the activity is associated with tectonic causes, rather than volcanic ones.
