Recently, the Casa Lercaro, part of the Museum of History and Anthropology of Tenerife, hosted a new edition of 'Entretelas'. This project, which began in 2014, aims to introduce the public to pieces from the museum's extensive collection of Textiles, Technologies, and Textile Arts, focusing on different themes in each session.
This time, headwear took center stage, presented in its many forms and for diverse uses. Approximately 70 pieces were selected, exceptionally brought out from their conservation storage.
For over two hours, Juan de la Cruz, an expert in textiles and clothing, guided attendees through the history of these unique objects. Participants learned about the origins of head adornment customs, the symbolic meanings of headwear, their cultural contexts, the raw materials used, and their creation processes. He also shared interesting facts about their uses and how many of these pieces became part of the museum's collection.
