The insular corporation has officially approved the bases and call for the fourth edition of the ‘nursery voucher’, a key initiative to alleviate the economic burden on households and promote work-life balance on the island. The measure starts with an initial investment of 1,300,000 euros, a budget expected to increase to 2 million euros depending on demand.
The president of the Tenerife Island Council, Rosa Dávila, explained that the primary objective is to “alleviate the economic burden on households, allowing parents to continue with their professional careers while their children receive the necessary care in childcare centers.” She highlighted the social impact, noting that the aid allows many mothers not to give up their jobs due to lack of childcare.
Dávila emphasized the excellent reception of the aid, with a 36% increase in applications in the last call compared to the previous year, confirming its usefulness and the need to reinforce it. The goal for the current term is to reach 6,000 beneficiary families, having already surpassed 3,000 households in the first three editions. The cumulative total amount reaches 5,800,000 euros.
The Minister of Employment, Education, and Youth, Efraín Medina, praised the technical team's work in processing the aid “in a timely manner,” stressing that this support reduces inequalities and allows vulnerable families to provide a solid foundation for their children with complete freedom to choose their educational center.
Beneficiaries will receive up to 800 euros per child to cover registration fees, childcare, daily hygiene products, meals, and school attire at childcare centers. The application period will open after the publication in the Official Gazette of the Province and will close on October 31st.
Additionally, the Island Council has approved a complementary allocation of 14 million euros for scholarships: 8 million for university studies and postgraduate degrees, 3 million for students with special educational needs, and 500,000 euros for artistic education and Vocational Training (FP).
In infrastructure, 578,300 euros will be allocated for the renovation of the access to Mesa Mota park in La Laguna, and 1,400,000 euros to repair trails in the rural park of Anaga following storm damage. Over 2 million euros will also be invested in a modernization and digital transformation plan for cybersecurity in municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants.
Regarding the works for the third lane of the TF-5, they will be carried out in stages, always keeping the current two lanes open to ensure traffic flow and access to the northern airport.
