The incident occurred during the night of last Monday in the Psychiatry ward of the HUC. The alleged perpetrator, a man with mental health issues, got out of his bed and approached another patient's bed. Without giving the victim a chance to defend himself, he inflicted serious neck injuries.
Hospital staff activated an alert and transferred the injured patient to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to the severity of his injuries. National Police officers arrested the aggressor, who, according to initial statements, justified his actions by claiming the victim's snoring prevented him from sleeping.
The Judicial Police Brigade of the National Police has taken over the investigation to clarify the circumstances of the event. The detainee will remain under police custody at the hospital until a medical report authorizes his transfer to judicial authority.
He is accused of attempted homicide. After being discharged from the hospital, he will be brought before the Court of Instance of La Laguna.
