The island of Tenerife is gearing up to host the visit of Pope Leo XIV on June 11th and 12th, an event that has generated considerable public anticipation. The pontiff's agenda on the island, taking place on Friday, June 12th, includes official ceremonies, a planned route, and the celebration of a mass, one of the most awaited moments for the faithful.
Throughout the day, a special operation is expected to provide minute-by-minute coverage of all information related to the visit, including schedules, movements, potential traffic diversions, and recommended access for attendees. Media coverage will be extensive, with over 400 RTVE professionals dedicated to documenting this journey, considered historic for the Canary Islands.
The mass, to be held in a venue with a capacity for 32,000 faithful, is poised to be the largest liturgical ceremony in the island's history. Over 1,600 volunteers and an unprecedented security operation will be deployed for its execution. The entry route to La Laguna has been modified for security reasons, and traffic restrictions will be in place in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Laguna on June 12th.
Beyond the official events and logistical preparations, the visit has already inspired local curiosities, such as the creation of a 'Pizza Vaticana' by a Tenerife pizzeria. Anticipation is at its peak for the pontiff's arrival on the island.
