The El Tanque City Council has awarded the execution of the renovation and expansion works for the municipality's senior residence. This project, with a budget of almost two million euros, will increase the center's capacity by 20 beds, accommodating a total of 42 users.
The works, scheduled for completion in 14 months, include the construction of a second floor, improvements to the current facilities, and the refurbishment of the basement or garage. The intervention will add 1,493 square meters of usable space to the building, located near the Plaza del Santísimo Cristo, in El Tanque Alto.
The start of the works is planned for next month, following a six-year management process to secure funding and complete bureaucratic procedures. The contract was awarded to a UTE (Temporary Business Union) after the initial tender was unsuccessful. Currently, the residence serves 22 users, and the expansion will include 12 new rooms and a dining-living area on the upper floor.
The project also includes creating a basement area so users do not need to go outside for transfers, as well as a space for staff. Large windows have been designed to allow residents to view the adjacent square, a central hub for local cultural and leisure activities. Additionally, 400,000 euros will be allocated to purchasing all necessary furniture.
“"I couldn't be happier. It has been a complicated project. It's hard to make people understand that it took us more than five years to get it off the ground."
The El Tanque City Council management will meet next week with the UTE and the construction management to define the start of the works and the delivery of the Safety and Health plan. Following this procedure, the staking out certificate will be signed, and construction will officially commence.
