San Cristóbal de La Laguna has been the chosen setting for the recording of the second season of the educational videopodcast 'No estudié para esto', driven by the International Education Network (RIEDU).
After its run in Madrid, the project, which seeks to debate education outside the traditional academic sphere, has arrived in Tenerife. The creators argue that education encompasses multiple facets of life, lamenting that crucial aspects such as emotional management or professional changes are often left out of the school curriculum.
Behind the initiative are the Tenerife-based educator expert in transformative education, Natalia Rodríguez Valls, and the Doctor of Education and president of RIEDU, Sergio Carneros. Both interview content creators, musicians, and athletes with a significant social media following to address these topics.

"We wanted to open education to the world, so your neighbor and your brother-in-law could have an opinion. When we ask guests about their childhood, incredible stories emerge. People listening connect quickly because they see that their school problems were the same as everyone else's."
The interviews reveal that the school years are not always motivating and that school often fails to prepare individuals for reinvention. One cited example is that of the former captain of the Spanish national rugby team, Jaime Nava, who felt disoriented after his sports retirement, having not been prepared for a change of direction.
The season recorded in Tenerife sought direct contact with the local population. Interviews were conducted in the Degree Hall of the University of La Laguna (ULL) with marine communicator Pablo Martín, and at the Ambigú Space of the Teatro Leal with comedian Gazz. Other recordings took place in the studio with psychologist Isa Duque and singer Ariann Music.
The creators consider these recordings with an audience an act of resistance against the digital age, highlighting the importance of human contact and live applause. The episodes are now available on platforms such as Spotify and YouTube.
The project originated from RIEDU's need, an NGO with a track record since 2008, to find current and mass communication channels. 'There was a need to promote a contemporary project through videopódcasts,' clarifies Sergio Carneros, seeking a format that, unlike others aimed at teachers, would open education to the world by leveraging the reach of interviewees.
The phrase 'ridicules' the fact that school seems to prepare us for life, but in reality, the only thing it doesn't prepare us for is life.
