The electricity company Endesa has implemented a contingency plan in Tenerife to ensure electrical supply during the upcoming visit of Pope Leo XIV, scheduled for June 12th.

The primary objective of this initiative is to prevent service interruptions in areas where the main papal events will take place and to ensure a rapid response in case of breakdowns. Special attention will be given to the electrical infrastructure serving critical zones such as the vicinity of the migrant center in Las Raíces, the Plaza del Cristo in La Laguna, and the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where a large mass is expected.
Endesa's technical teams will be on alert, and planned mobility restrictions by the Government of the Canary Islands will be considered to facilitate access to strategic points. The company will also monitor weather forecasts to anticipate potential adverse scenarios, including power peaks, high temperatures, storms, or forest fires.
The plan includes the presence of specialized technical teams in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Laguna, municipalities that will host a significant portion of the events. Furthermore, the power grid has been reconfigured, and preliminary tests have been conducted on substations and distribution centers to ensure the electrical system's resilience against the anticipated demand.
This electrical reinforcement measure complements the actions coordinated by various administrations and organizations to ensure the security and smooth running of the papal visit.
