The wind is fanning the fire, causing flames and smoke to spread rapidly. Due to this, Txema Santana, Communications Director for the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, has urged caution for the population near the affected area.
As a preventive measure, the road connecting Cazadores to the summit of Gran Canaria has been closed to traffic. The smoke from the fire is visible from the eastern part of the island.
The Telde City Council, for its part, has reported seven active fire spots, all located below the power line. The mayor of the municipality, Juan Antonio Peña, along with the Security Councilor, are closely monitoring the situation.
