The CajaCanarias Foundation held the closing ceremony for its 2026 Swimming Courses last Thursday, August 27th. This initiative, ongoing since the 1970s, has contributed to the aquatic education of thousands of children in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This year's course benefited 145 minors, aged between 4 and 14, from the municipalities of Arafo, Arico, Fasnia, La Guancha, San Juan de la Rambla, San Miguel, Tegueste, and Vilaflor.
The event took place at the swimming pool of the La Jurada Sports Center, in San Isidro. During the ceremony, Gustavo González, activity manager, and Macarena Chico, Head of Protocol and manager of the Foundation's Sports Area, presented diplomas and medals to the participants, recognizing their effort and progress achieved during the course.
Over more than five decades, this sports program has enabled over 250,000 people to acquire basic swimming skills. The initiative specifically targets municipalities with limited aquatic facilities and families with limited economic resources, providing free registration, transportation, and all necessary materials.
With this new edition, the CajaCanarias Foundation reaffirms its commitment to promoting sports, equal opportunities, and child welfare, facilitating access to essential training that combines learning, safety, and healthy lifestyle habits.
