The initiative, part of the Historical Heritage Service's Guided Tours Program, will take place in September and October. Registration opens on Monday, August 31st, at 9:00 AM on the digital platform visitaspatrimonio.grancanaria.com, with limited spots available.
The tour, approximately an hour and a half long, will depart from the Casa del Turismo in Santa Catalina Park. Attendees will discover how tourism has transformed the urban landscape of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, creating spaces, architecture, and new professions.
The route will cover the arrival of the first travelers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, attracted by the climate and fresh air. It will detail how tourist activity shifted towards the coast, turning Puerto, Santa Catalina Park, and Las Canteras into a cosmopolitan hub.
Emblematic buildings such as the Casa del Turismo, the Apartamentos Miami, the current AC Hotel (formerly Hotel Don Juan and Hotel Los Bardinos), the Hotel Catalina Plaza, and the Hotel Concorde will be mentioned, considered part of the early historical centers of tourism in the Canary Islands.
The walk through streets like Luis Morote or Ripoche, and the transformation of Las Canteras Beach with the construction of hotels like the Hotel Towers, Hotel Cristina, or Hotel Reina Isabel, will also be part of the visit, highlighting the work of architects such as Miguel Martín-Fernández de la Torre.
