Tenerife South Airport, along with Alicante Airport, will serve as the starting point in Spain for two of the UK's most recognized mass food corporations. The bakery chain Greggs and the budget pub group Wetherspoon have selected these locations for their strategic landing in the country.
Both brands, enjoying immense popularity in the UK and having influenced British gastronomic culture, operate under a high-efficiency model that translates into low consumer prices. British media are already celebrating these openings as a landmark for the millions of tourists who visit the Canary Islands each year, offering a "home-cooked meal away from home" experience.
Greggs, founded in 1939 in Newcastle, began as a small bicycle delivery service for bread and eggs and has grown into the UK's largest bakery chain, known for its sausage rolls and budget-friendly options. Wetherspoon, established in London in the late seventies, distinguished itself by offering beer and mixed drinks at highly competitive prices. In the nineties, the company revolutionized the sector by transforming abandoned historic buildings, such as cinemas and bank offices, into large pubs with a distinctive architectural character.
