The works, which lasted approximately three months, have enabled the creation of a new space dedicated to basic minor surgery procedures. This specialty encompasses simple, short-duration techniques performed on superficial or easily accessible tissues, under local anesthesia, with no significant post-surgical complications expected.
The unit serves a total of 55,381 users from the basic health zones of Tincer, El Chorrillo, Barranco Grande, and Añaza. Since its implementation in April 2022 until the end of 2025, it has already assisted 10,872 users, enhancing healthcare accessibility.
This enhancement allows for the safe and outpatient resolution of simple surgical procedures, avoiding unnecessary referrals and reducing hospital waiting times. It is used for treating conditions such as cysts, warts, or ingrown toenails, among others.
The working methodology of these surgical units is based on the ‘Primary Care Minor Surgery Protocol’, coordinated by the General Directorate of Healthcare Programs of the Canary Islands Health Service. This protocol aims to standardize care, enhance safety, and minimize clinical variability.
Tenerife's Primary Care network includes sixteen minor surgery units located across various basic health zones. Additionally, Advanced Minor Surgery teams are available at the Taco and La Vera Health Centers to cover the northern area and parts of the metropolitan and southern regions.
During 2025, Basic Minor Surgery services in Primary Care attended to 42,660 users, while Advanced Minor Surgery assisted 31,447 users.
