The Administrative Surveillance and Inspection Unit (UVIA) of the General Body of the Canary Islands Police (CGPC) has discovered an illegal landfill on a plot of approximately 4,000 square meters classified as Agricultural Protection Rural Land in Tenerife. Initial proceedings point to alleged continuous offenses against natural resources and territorial planning.
During inspections, officers confirmed the presence of large quantities of urban solid waste and construction and demolition debris, tires, belongings, electrical wiring, and paint cans. Signs of open burning directly on the ground were also observed.
Among the accumulated materials, scattered remains of asbestos were found buried. This is a particularly dangerous waste due to the risks generated by the release of its fibers, thus aggravating the detected environmental and health impact.
The accumulation of thousands of cubic meters of waste, along with the presence of potentially contaminating substances and evidence of burning, has caused a significant alteration of the land's conditions, which does not permit this type of activity due to its classification.
