The Ministry of Economy has launched a procedure for inspectors from the Directorate General of Commerce and Consumption to gather information and documentation on fuel prices at service stations in the Canary Islands.

The measure, published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC), tasks Commerce and Consumption inspectors with collecting data and documents related to fuel costs. This action supports the competition defense functions of the Vice-Ministry of Economy and Internationalization, which lacks its own inspection personnel.
Inspections may include requesting documentation, identifying the person in charge of the service station, receiving the requested information, and drawing up official reports. Inspectors will also temporarily hold the documentation before forwarding it to the competent body.
Inspection personnel must identify themselves with their professional credentials and act under a specific administrative order for each action. The resolution clarifies that the mandate itself does not authorize documentation requests; each requirement must be backed by a specific order.
The inspectors' role will be limited to collecting documentation and recording observed facts and incidents in the reports. They will not be able to initiate sanctioning proceedings or assess potential breaches of competition regulations.
