The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) reminds that honking the horn without justification, such as during sports celebrations, can result in an €80 fine, according to traffic regulations.

On the occasion of the match between Spain and France, the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has reminded drivers of the financial penalties they face for the improper use of their vehicle's acoustic signal. Although many citizens use the horn to cheer or show support, regulations establish clear limits for its use.
Article 110 of the General Traffic Regulations specifies that acoustic warnings should only be used "exceptionally or when provided for by a regulation." Its unjustified or exaggerated use is prohibited, being reserved mainly for avoiding accidents, warning of an overtaking outside urban areas, or in serious emergency situations.
The DGT points out common behaviors that are not permitted, such as celebrating sports victories, greeting acquaintances from the vehicle, protesting a driver's slow progress after a green light, or showing anger in traffic jams. The primary function of the horn is preventive, to alert others of danger, not to express discontent or euphoria.
Improper use of the horn can result in a fine of 80 euros. This same amount applies to those who use acoustic signals in areas marked with the R-310 sign, common near hospitals, residences, or schools, where the prohibition is general except to avoid an accident.
Traffic authorities insist that celebrations, such as the possible achievement of a title by the Spanish team, must be carried out while respecting traffic rules to avoid endangering road safety.
