A rooster, known for inhabiting the Plaza del Adelantado in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, is recovering after being attacked by a potentially dangerous dog, while the Local Police investigate the canine's owner.

The iconic rooster that resided in the Plaza del Adelantado, in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, is undergoing recovery at the Valle Colino Regional Shelter. The bird suffered a severe attack by a potentially dangerous breed dog. Following the incident, the Local Police have initiated an investigation to identify the dog's owner and determine potential administrative sanctions, as confirmed by the City Council this Saturday.
The events unfolded when the dog's owner allegedly deliberately incited the animal to attack the rooster. The swift intervention of several citizens present in the area, along with the arrival of Local Police officers and collection personnel, enabled the bird's rescue in the public thoroughfare.
Due to the severity of the injuries, the rooster was transferred to an external veterinary center for emergency treatment, where it received stitches. Currently, the animal remains stable and under constant supervision at the Valle Colino facilities, awaiting a new review on Monday. The Animal Welfare department of the La Laguna council is closely monitoring its progress.
The incident marks a definitive change for the rooster, which had become a symbol for residents and visitors of the square. The La Laguna City Council is already seeking a new permanent location to ensure its well-being and safety outside of public spaces. Both the council and the Unidas se puede party have praised the coordination of the involved resources and the citizen assistance.

Due to the expenses incurred from the operation, the Valle Colino Shelter has issued a public appeal for financial donations to help cover the bird's treatment.
